HAWORTH and Bingley Congs have become the first teams to win their first-round ties in the Keighley Cup.

Haworth defeated Denholme by ten runs at West Lane last Friday, while two days earlier Congs had beaten Sutton by 22 runs at Beckfoot Lane to also reach the quarter-finals.

The Rowells scored the bulk of Haworth's 153-4, with Jamie unbeaten on 74 and Damien making 42.

Denholme replied with 143-9, of which Toby Priestley scored 43, with Will Yildiz taking 4-15 and Adam Bailey 2-9.

Congs, buoyed by Sam Porter (32) and Tom Parker (22), were pegged back by good bowling from Micky Ruddock (4-16) and Chris Walker (2-3), but were dismissed for 101.

Sutton were 31-8 but, thanks to disciplined batting by Walker (31no), reached 79, with Jonny Teale (4-11) and Ben Hemsley (2-11) causing the early shutter of wickets.
