GLUSBURN Community Primary School year two pupil Charlie Albone has cycled his way to more competition success.

Charlie, seven, this month won the British Schools regional and national mountain bike titles for his age group at Penistone Hill, near Haworth.

Charlie, who rides for Bronte Tykes Cycling Club based in Keighley, races regularly on the track and in cyclo-cross races across Yorkshire.

School head Richard Hunt said: “Charlie began his latest race with his trademark quick start, developing a solid lead on the demanding 4.5-mile course over rough and technical terrain.

“During the race he overcome a crash two laps in, but managed to carry on to win by over a minute from the second-placed rider from Leeds.

“Everybody from his club and his school are very proud of him. During assembly when I asked him what makes a great champion, Charlie replied: ‘Working hard and crossing the finish line first!’.”
