JER Lane’s hopes of ending their time in the Spenser Wilson Halifax League by winning the Premier Division title took a second jolt in eight days.

In one of the shocks of the season, Jer suffered a home defeat to bottom team Queensbury.

Phil Sharples’ outfit are gradually coming to terms with life in the top tier and recent news that only one team will be relegated appears to have inspired two successive victories as they moved off the lowest rung.

Khalil Rehman was the scourge of Jer Lane as he took 6-51, with Muhammed Bilal’s 44 runs making the difference as the visitors squeezed home by one wicket.

Oxenhope’s early-season form appears to have deserted them as, shorn of several regulars at home to Triangle, they were asked to bat on a damp, miserable day and were dismissed for 95, which was an improvement on 1-3.

Only two players made double figures – captain Josh Tetley (51) and Joe Ousey (14) – as Kurtis Whippey took 5-14 and Nathan Madden 3-6.

With more rain in the air, Triangle were in no mood to mess around and won by eight wickets in 11.5 overs, with Liam Dyson taking both wickets.

Northowram Hedge Top now prop up the division as they struggled again, this time at Thornton, who reached their 182-run target with only two wickets down.

Ben Burkill was in the runs again for Cullingworth in Division One, scoring 66 in their 176 at home to Shelf, for who Mick Priestley took 4-45.

The visitors were looking good at 146-4 but they collapsed to 156 all out, with Burkill taking 4-46, Chris Welch 3-3 and David Robinson 2-18.

Stones are the only team in the league without a maximum- points win and there was nothing to suggest that will change soon as they lost at Great Horton Park Chapel by 79 runs.

Adam Beesley notched 80 for the home side, his partnership with Zafar Anwar (40) producing 126 runs, but credit to William Thickett as he recorded 6-58.

Leymoor (v Low Moor HT), Mount (v Clayton) and Outlane (at Upper Hopton) all achieved narrow wins in matches that could have gone either way.

At Leymoor, Pierce Walker (62) and Mark Coulson (5-27) were to the fore in a 36-run win, while Mount managed an 11-run victory over Clayton, thanks to a ninth-wicket stand between Ibrahim Badat (62) and Asif Iqbal (38).

Outlane’s margin of victory was even narrower, eight runs, at Upper Hopton in another tightly-fought contest.
