Pre-season friendly: Handsworth Parramore 1 Guiseley 4

NEW loan signing Raul Correia and John Rooney both bagged braces as Guiseley put in a strong second-half performance last night.

The scoreline suggests an easy win but the Lions had periods of toil against the pumped-up Ambers.

The game started at a good tempo but the pace dropped, and with no goals almost ten minutes into the second half, Rooney brought it to life when he scored directly from a 54th-minute corner.

The home side’s Aaron Moxam equalised just after the hour when he beat Guiseley’s former Ambers keeper Joe Green at the second attempt, but Correia, signed from Blackpool, opened his account with an accurate finish after a strong run, and added a second when he headed home Danny East’s cross late on.

And there was still time for Rooney, younger brother of former England and Manchester United skipper Wayne, to wrap up the scoring in the last minute.

Thackley’s home friendly against Clone was cancelled as the Lancashire outfit felt they couldn’t raise a team that would be competitive enough to do the fixture justice.

That has left the Dennyboys looking for an away friendly next week as they prepare for an important FA Cup extra-preliminary tie at home to league rivals Harrogate Railway Athletic a week on Saturday.

Tonight is another busy one as the area’s semi pro-clubs work towards their seasons, with six clubs in action in just four games.

The derbies are Eccleshill United at home to Brighouse Town and Silsden at home to an FC Halifax Town XI.

Sean Regan’s Eagles are flying high after an 8-2 home win over a Curzon Ashton XI at the weekend.

Eccleshill’s Marcus Edwards, Jonathan Irving and Chris Lever all bagged  braces.

Brighouse also won on Saturday, 2-1 at Bridlington Town, but followed that with a 2-1 defeat at Penistone Church on Monday as Vill Powell intensified the workload for his players.

Silsden beat an experimental Albion Sports side 4-2 last weekend and have no idea what strength of side they will face tonight when the Shaymen pitch up at the Cobbydale Construction Stadium.

Halifax sent their first team to manager Billy Heath’s former club North Ferriby United and enjoyed a 3-0 win with goals from Tom Denton, Matt Kosylo and Bohan Dixon, so a younger squad is expected to take on the Cobbydalers.

Campion and Liversedge both have home friendlies that they would expect to win.

James Bicknell’s Campion host Beeston St Anthony’s, while Sedge welcome CGB Humbertherm.
