DESPITE having 20 points taken off them when their second team failed to fulfil a fixture two weekends ago, Keighley's first team are still harbouring hopes of promotion from the All Rounder Cricket Bradford Premier League Championship Division One.

And they helped themselves no end by handing runaway leaders Hartshead Moor only their second defeat of the season.

Keighley asked hosts Moor to have first use of a damp wicket and restricted them to 167-7 off their 50 overs.

Opener Mohammed Khan scored 47, taking his tally for the season to 869 for the Stags, before being caught by skipper Andrew Wear off the bowling of Matt Haines.

From 103-3, Keighley did well to peg the leaders back, despite 30 not out from Martin Ellis, and that was mainly down to Haines (2-47 off 15) and youngsters Owen Narey (2-41 off 13), Dillon Birkett (2-26 off nine) and Sam Murphy (1-6 off seven).

Keighley lost wicket-keeper Adam Smith early, but Wear (38) and overseas player Travis Nightingale (30) added 75 for the second wicket, and Jack Beetham's 24 helped before Louis Horsfield (30no) and Sam Johnson (22no) took the visitors home with 13 balls to spare in an unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 42.

Keighley are now sixth, just 18 points behind second-placed Hunslet Nelson, with Moor's lead now trimmed to 67 points.

Lawkholme Lane hosted Keighley's second team match against Ossett in Championship Division One, and the home side were dismissed for 87 in 25.3 overs after being sent in.

Only opener Luke Chapman (28) and Joe Williams (24) reached double figures, adding 33 for the second wicket as Gavin Goodlad took 5-52 from 13 overs and Luke Watson 2-26 from nine.

Nathan Allatt (3-22 from seven) and Williams (3-34 from 6.3) helped to reduce Ossett to 79-6, when opener Solly Abbas was out for a run-a-ball 50, but they had no further success and lost by four wickets.

Keighley's first team host bottom-of-the-table Brighouse on Saturday, while the second team, who themselves are rooted to the foot of the table, are at Methley.
