STEETON failed to claim their first away win of the season at Calverley on Saturday, despite James Emmott's second successive five-wicket haul in Division Two.

All out for 189, Calverley defeated Steeton by 23 runs after an outstanding bowling performance of their own, with Johnny Hudson (4-49) and Tom Simpson (3-30) to the fore.

Steeton started strongly when Josh Gill removed both opening batters, Liam Johnston and Christopher Coates, with Calverley having just 36 runs on the board.

The next three batters were all removed without scoring more than 12 runs each, with the score looking promising for Steeton at 68-5.

However, strong batting from Ally Long, who scored 26, and Scott Driscoll (40) ensured a more positive conclusion for Calverley, with Simpson also scoring well with 31 from 31 balls to finish as Emmott ended up with 5-29.

In Steeton's reply, opener John Akrigg was dispatched without getting off the mark.

David Robinson and Gill suffered the same fate as only Stephen Pearson and 14-year-old William Luxton scored more than 30, with 34 from 57 balls and 30 from 73 respectively.

Nav Panesar sealed the win for Calverley, bowling out Joe Stead for seven.

Harden kept their promotion hopes alive in a tight Division Three match at Bardsey.

Paul Quinlan (58) and a sixth wicket stand of 44 between Matthew Topham and Robert Unsworth helped Harden set a target of 220-6.

That looked as though it might not be enough with Bardsey on 157-3 but Quinlan removed danger man Harwood Williams and went on to grab a 6-44 return that stopped their rivals in their tracks, six runs short of victory.

Elsewhere, Steeton's second team defeated bottom side Collingham by three wickets, despite their opponents setting a huge target of 296 runs.

Fantastic batting from Luke Watson, scoring 73 runs from 67 balls, guided Steeton to an entertaining victory, with impressive performances from Bradley Akrigg, scoring 46 runs, and Zach Pearson, smashing 43 off 27 balls.

Needing 32 from 17 deliveries with three wickets left, it still need a fantastic cameo from youngster Harris Rowlett, who blasted a match-winning 26 from just nine balls to help keep Steeton fourth-from-bottom.

A half-century from Martin Falkingham (51) was not enough as Harden seconds' 122-9 was passed for the loss of one wicket by visitors Bilton.
