BRADFORD & Bingley Thirds opened the door in the Mewies Solicitors Craven League's replayed Cowling Cup final at sunny Denholme but were unable to burst through it.

Bingley, who are fourth in the Third Division, had Second Division leaders Haworth Road Meths at 46-6 after ten overs before skipper Paul Rodwell (22) and Rehan Ahmed (21) put on 36 for the seventh wicket.

Meths finished on 111-9 at the end of their 20 overs, with Dave Critchlow taking 3-18 and Matthew Sharp 2-18.

The underdogs, undaunted by their opponents, battled courageously on the resumption but were always behind the run rate.

Despite an opening stand of 41, they closed on 101-6,with Critchlow (30no) and Sharp (25) completing fine matches.

Under-16 Tom Kaznowski (4-23), chosen as man of the match by umpires Mike Gowling and Trevor Coe, unlocked the middle order and was helped by Andy Maude (2-6).

At the trophy presentation, league fixture secretary Trevor Coe thanked Denholme for their work on the ground and their tea ladies for the bacon butties.

He also thanked sponsors JMS Ltd for their continued support of the competition.
