West Yorkshire League Division One: Wyke 2 Oxenhope Rec 0

OXENHOPE travelled to Wyke who had started the season well and were third in the table.

The visitors' best chance of the first half was from a free-kick. Scott Nelson flicked the ball on and Lee Reilly’s first-time shot beat the keeper but went just wide.

Wyke's main threat came from down the flanks but their crosses were dealt with by a well-organised Oxenhope defence.

A goalmouth skirmish saw several Rec shots at goal but the Wyke defence blocked all attempts as the half remained goalless.

At half-time Oxenhope lost striker Reilly to injury and soon after Andy King also had to withdraw. As Oxenhope reorganised the home side started to gain the upper hand and, on the hour, they took the lead.

Their front man burst through the Oxenhope defence. Keeper Stu Devlin made two point-blank saves but picked up an injury with his second block and, as the ball was crossed back across goal, he was helpless to stop the third attempt as Joe Entwhistle got the goal.

Wyke were now in the ascendancy. A cross from the left and a powerful strike was touched on to the post and safety by Devlin but he could do nothing on 80 minutes when Wyke front man Karl Fawcett ran on to a long ball and hammered home for their second.

As the home side tired Oxenhope pressed to get something out of the game but attempts by Michael Garnett, Scott Nelson and Lewis Hopkinson were denied.

This Saturday (2.30pm) Oxenhope entertain East End Park at the Recreation Ground.

Oxenhope: Devlin, Scott, Wilson (Pullan), Nelson S, Nelson D, White, Bailey, Longley, Reilly (Hopkinson), Garnett, King (Driver).
