Bradford Sunday Alliance Championship: Crossflatts Village 3 FC Prospect 2

Crossflatts Village bounced back in style after the previous week’s home defeat to Station Hotel with a victory against previously unbeaten Prospect.

Assistant boss Les Cooper asked for 100 per cent commitment and he got that from the start – but a lack of composure in front of goal saw his charges miss a few early chances and the away side broke the deadlock after ten minutes.

Prospect won the ball in the Village half and the ball found its way to striker Brandon Hammond, who beat three players before drilling the ball into the bottom corner.

Village levelled things after 25 minutes when Matt Wilson’s throw-in caused pandemonium in the Prospect back-line, allowing James Gill to head home.

Flatts deservedly took the lead just after the break. Winger Colin Schofield breezed down the right and pulled the ball back for Michael Garnett, who drilled home from close range.

The home side doubled their lead on the hour thanks to a Robert Cook own goal after more confusion in the away back line.

Prospect midfielder Tristan Innes pulled it back to 3-2 but Flatts held on to secure a well-deserved three points.

Player-manager Kevin Gill said: “We were a lot better. Once we start taking all our chances there will be no stopping us. "We have a massive (league cup) game away at Oakenshaw next and I need more of the same from our players. I am over the moon with the result.”

Cooper added: “We were better than them without a shadow of a doubt. Overall it was an excellent performance. We dropped off a little bit in the second half but overall we were outstanding.”

Flatts midfield veteran James Gill was awarded the man-of-the-match after a tireless display.
