Steeton u-18s 8 Menston u-18s 2

STEETON recorded their sixth victory in a row with a below-par performance at Summerhill Lane.

With the previous week’s heroics probably still in their minds, the Chevrons started slowly against a side with plenty of players behind the ball, looking to frustrate them and hit them on the break.

A last-ditch tackle from Reece Hird kept the scores level but Menston took the lead from a counter-attack and a close-range finish.

A half-time pep talk and a change to personnel, with Matty Griffiths coming in on the left handside, seemed to work when Griffiths found space in the box to control and finish.

It opened the floodgates as Jordan Daniel bagged a hat-trick, Griffiths got his second and Will Kaye used the back of his head to score from a corner.

Dominic Westcott got in on the act when Jacob Bryceland’s overlapping run split Menston's defence and he rolled the ball to Westcott to side-foot home.

Harry Farnell rounded off Steeton's scoring after another driving, taking his goal tally to eight from midfield, before Menston added a consolation.

Special mention goes to Jack McCormack, who played 90 minutes in goal with Elliot Wilson still having trials with Bradford City.
