Prospect AFC 4 Crossflatts Village FC 7

COLIN Schofield's hat-trick proved to be the difference in Crossflatts' Senior Cup win at The University Ground as his side came from behind to advance into the semi-finals.

Prospect took the lead in the fourth minute when Gary Sunderland went down the left wing and his left-foot shot arrowed into the right-hand corner past Village keeper Dom Bennett.

The away side then went on a four-goal blitz in 25 minutes that turned the cup tie on its head thanks to Michael Garnett, two goals from man-of-the-match Colin Schofield and a trademark James Gill strike.

The hosts then pulled one back when Sunderland scored his second from the box to make it 4-2 before half-time.

Village took it to 5-2 after the break when Schofield completed his hat-trick.

Prospect pulled one back as Sunderland scored his third goal.

Village then scored their sixth when keeper Chris Mitchell was dispossessed in his area after turning into trouble.

Prospect scored their fourth goal when Jason Hobson fired home.

The final goal came from Village as right back George Clark played the ball into Garnett, who finished the ball into the bottom right corner.

Village manager Kevin Gill said: "We played well despite having a few key players out. They started well but once we got into gear we were much the better side, despite conceding a few soft goals.

"I am looking forward to the semi-final now. The lads will be up for it and it will be a good test to see how far we have come this season."

Village right-back Clark was delighted with the result and promised that there is a lot more to come from him this season.

He said: "I was injured at the start of the campaign so I have had to wait patiently to get back into the side but now I am here to stay.

"I told the gaffer at the start of the season that I am more of a winger or a striker but I have helped out at the back because they know I can play in any position. I just love bombing forward and supporting the forwards and I am happy with my three goals in two games."
