A SILSDEN teenager was among the medals as City of Bradford swimmers performed strongly at the Yorkshire Championships.

Sophia Basaraba, 13, won bronze in the 50-metre backstroke as her team won 35 medals, 22 of them gold.

It was their best overall performance in the competition since 2011, with six club records broken in the process.

Meanwhile, Addingham's Hermione Roe was the main record-breaker, smashing five on her way to eight golds, also in the 13 years age group.

She claimed titles in the 200m individual medley, 50m and 100m butterfly, 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke and 100m and 200m freestyle, as well as winning silver in the 50m freestyle.

Cameron Green led the way in the 13 years age group, claiming an incredible 13 golds as well as a silver.

His wins came in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke, 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle, 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke, 50m and 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley. His silver was achieved in the 200m butterfly.

Archie Dunn, 15, picked up the club's other gold medal, coming out on top in the 50m butterfly event.

He also claimed a trio of bronze medals for his performances in the 100m breaststroke, 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle.

Having qualified for the British Championships in Edinburgh, Samuel Naylor, 17, collected four medals at the competition.

The Burley-in-Wharfedale swimmer picked up silver in the 200m backstroke, as well as bronze in the 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley and 200m butterfly. His time in the latter event saw him join Roe in setting a new club record.

While there were no more golds or records broken, there were plenty more medals.

Archie Minto, 15, swam to silver in the 100m butterfly, Cameron Mander followed suit in the 50m breaststroke.

There was also a group medal for the boys’ 14/15 years medley team, with the quartet of Minto, Dunne, Cameron Mander and Harris Khaliq rounding things off with silver.
