Keighley FA Cup Final

Crossflatts Village FC 3 Sandy Lane 0

CROSSFLATTS Village lifted the Keighley FA Cup trophy for the third time in their history thanks to a comfortable 3-0 win over Sandy Lane.

Village got off to a flying start and they opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Craig Morris was played through by Michael Garnett.

Flatts double their lead 10 minutes later when Garnett was quickest to react to an Oliver Metcalfe free-kick that had found its way into the six-yard box.

Winger Colin Schofield completed the scoring early in the second half for Kevin Gill's side.

Village defender Matty Morgan was awarded the man-of-the-match award after an excellent display at the heart of the Village defence.

Crossflatts Village assistant manager Les Cooper was pleased with the overall team performance, but he singled out praise for his defence who never let Sandy Lane into the game:

He said: "We defended excellently all over the pitch.

"We never let them settle. They looked shell-shocked.

"We won all the big tackles early doors and some of their players didn't want to know after that."

A couple of Village players did pick up knocks during the cup final victory that might rule them out for the rest of the season.

Centre-back and player-manager Gill has a bruised foot and goal-keeper Dominic Bennett has a shoulder injury.

Village now switch their attention to the league when they travel to Westwood Park tonight, knowing that they must win to keep their Championship title hopes alive.

They then travel to Manningham Mills three days later to face Westwood Park again - this time in the League Cup Final.

Village have three games remaining this season and are three wins away from securing a superb treble.
