CROSSFLATTS suffered a surprise five-wicket defeat against Haworth Road at Ryshworth Park in the first round of the Wynn Cup thanks to Chris Griggs' brilliant 56.

The hosts batted first and made 145-9 in their 40 overs, with Dominic Bennett scoring 36 and Jim O’Hara 33no. The Baildon Bottom side got home with 11 balls to spare though, with Griggs and Mansha Khan (42no) seeing them into the next round.

Joining Haworth Road will be Oakworth, who overcame a gutsy performance by Eldwick & Gilstead at Wide Lane.

Jacob Roach (76) and Tom Conneely (39) helped the visitors to set a target of 168 as Richard Cavender took 3-32. For the home side, Ben Howell made 58no and Joel Gallagher 39 as they cruised home by seven wickets.

At Royd Hill, Sutton restricted Cononley to 106-9, of which Charles Calvert top scored with 32 and Tim Feather made 31 as James MacDonald claimed 3-35. In reply Chris Barrett (35) and David Snowden (24) saw the hosts home by six wickets.

At Skipton Road, John Beckwith made 33 as Gargrave posted 102 against Embsay, for whom Aslam Hussain (2-7), Sam Arkwright (2-11) and Phil Binner (2-11) were in the wickets. Eliott Stockton (40) helped his side to a five wicket victory.

They were the only four ties to be played as Airedale conceded to Bingley Congs, Cowling to Riddlesden and Glusburn to Wilsden.

The second round ties, which will be played on Sunday, June 3 are as follows: Wilsden v Oakworth, Thornton v Haworth Road, Haworth v Long Lee, Barrowford v Bingley Congs, Sutton v Embsay, Ingrow v Riddlesden, Hepworth & Idle v Chatburn, Foulridge v Sandy Lane.
