KEIGHLEY continued their impressive start to the season by moving into the third round of the Priestley Shield with a three-wicket win over Hartshead Moor.

They chased down their opponents’ challenging total of 263 with 16 balls to spare thanks to a third-wicket stand of 157 between Sam Murphy (96) and Alex Towler (86).

Martin Ellis (85) and Andy Croft (49) were the top scorers for Hartshead Moor while Dylan Birkett (4-34) was Keighley’s best bowler.

Two more significant third-wicket partnerships were key to the success of Cleckheaton and Baildon.

Shahid Rehman (65no) and Ethan Lee (63) shared 125 as Cleckheaton chased down Liversedge’s 159 in which Matthew Gibson made 67 and Matthew Pickard 40.

Darren Wilson (53) and Ross Todd (50) put on exactly 100 for Baildon to help their side to make 244-9 despite the efforts of George Hanson (4-23) and Oliver Allitt (3-38).

Bradford & Bingley were restricted to 155-9 by Jamie Abbott (3-19) and Seif Hussain (3-21) as Baildon secured an 89-run win.

Joe Wigglesworth (95) was in good form as Wrenthorpe made 246-5 in their 120-run win over Championship One leaders Morley. Mohammad Bashir (49) gave him good support.

Ryan Dowse battled his way to 50 but couldn’t spare Morley from defeat as they were dismissed for 126. Shoaib Hasmi (4-44) and Brandon Hewlett (3-33) did much of the damage.

Last year’s beaten finalists Bowling Old Lane had no trouble brushing aside Spen Victoria by seven wickets. Naeem Khan took 3-17 as Spen were bowled out for 108, and he followed up by making 31.

Another team to ease into the third round were Pudsey St Lawrence. They bowled out Gomersal for just 81 with leg spinner Archie Scott taking 5-13 to set up an eight-wicket win.

Harvey Lockwood was the only batsman to make an impression. He continued his good form with 58. St Lawrence had little trouble knocking off the runs.

Hanging Heaton, a side who have enjoyed great success in the competition, bowed out as Lightcliffe defeated them by seven wickets.

Jake Broadbent (4-6) and Mark Whiley (3-32) impressed as Hanging Heaton were bowled out for 100. Chris Goodair (37) was the only batsman to make an impression. Brooke (29no) ensured Lightcliffe secured their passage to the next round.

Veteran Andy Wilson made 65 as Undercliffe overcame East Bierley by two wickets. He ensured his side squeezed home despite some fine bowling from Ryan Lumb (5-34).

East Bierley were bowled out for 137 when they batted first. Dan Abbott (47) and Ross Monaghan (34) were their top scorers while Adam Frost (4-23) was the best of the Undercliffe bowlers.

Bankfoot’s experienced seam bowler Nigel Hanson produced the day’s best bowling figures of 6-18 which helped his side dismiss Carlton for 95 on their way to a seven-wicket win.

Azaad’s Tariq Mahmood took 5-33 but couldn’t save his side from a 62-run defeat against Buttershaw St Paul’s.

James Brown (42) and Pritesh Lad (36) helped St Paul’s to make 187 before bowling out Azaad for 125, Jack Wilson taking 3-17.

Scholes eased to an eight-wicket win over Crossbank Methodists with Neil Kellett (40), Sikander Mahmood (37) and Nick Firth (30no) ensuring they overhauled their opponents’ score of 131. Kellett (3-20) and Steve Wood (3-14) were the pick of the bowlers.

Good contributions from Adam Patrick (47), skipper Chris Doey (42) and Keegan Moodley (41) helped Pudsey Congs to 261 in their 124-run win over Adwalton.

James Curtis made a battling 51 not out as Adwalton perished for 137. Mark Ferguson (3-24) and Patrick (3-32) were the best of the Congs bowlers.

Batley judged their run chase perfectly as they passed Altofts’ score of 231-8 with eight balls to spare.

Altofts batsman Ben Walsh was the unluckiest player of the day after being bowled out for 99.

Yeadon moved into round two with a two-wicket win over Farsley after chasing down a total of 120.

Jer Lane’s hopes of a good run in the competition in their first season were ended by Northowram Fields who chased down their 183 to win by seven wickets.

Holders Woodlands secured their place in the third round without playing when opponents East Ardsley forfeited their tie.
