GOLCAR United have been awarded the West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division title, which seemed destined to go to Salts.

The Saltaire club were expecting to receive the trophy prior to their final home game against Steeton.

However, Golcar United appealed to the league's management committee that Littletown had fielded an ineligible player against them in both league matches last month.

The player concerned had played for Liversedge at Parkgate in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division (Step Five), and should not have played for Littletown as the matches fell within the 28-day rule.

The standard code of rule only allows players at Step Six to play within the 28-day rule.

Littletown claimed that they were unaware that the player, who played for them in over half of their fixtures, had represented Liversedge, but Golcar United produced photographic evidence from Parkgate's website proving that he had played in the fixture.

After checking that the photos from the game could be given as evidence, the West Riding County Amateur League's management committee decided to void the results from both games, which Littletown had won, and ordered them to be replayed.

Golcar won the first game 1-0 to take their tally of points to 48, but Littletown then failed to turn up for the second game, handing Golcar the three points that they required to push Salts into second place

United received an additional three points as Wakefield City failed to fulfil their home game against them on Wednesday, May 9.

Ovenden West Riding completed their Division One games without being defeated and netted 115 goals, 44 of which were scored by striker John Booth in league games alone.

Salts Reserves finished second, 17 points adrift of the champions.
