THE Skipton Inter-District Veterans team recorded a narrow 29-27 victory over league leaders Bradford, with the home team been the main heroes in the home leg at Gargrave with a 20-8 success.

They recorded six good winners, the best being a 21-4 victory by Alden Phillips, while John Parkin and David Jacques recorded 21-11 victories.

But only David Hemsley and Trevor Hargreaves, with a 21-7, won their matches to go down 19-9 but not a bad effort overall. Their next game is even harder against an in-form Halifax on June 29.

There was a good day’s bowling in the Valley Trebles at Keighley BC last Sunday, where the winners for the third consecutive year were Graeme Ralph and sons Jason and James Jennings who comfortably defeated Carol Harrison, Bev Guffick and Mick Paton, of Lund Park, 16-9 after been 3-9 down.

In the Supplementary event, the Settle team of Derek Seed, David Leeming and John Chambers scraped home 10-8 against Trevor Hargreaves, Stephen Lloyd and Gordon Ibbotson of Cross Roads.

The Yorkshire Ladies Veteran’s team travelled to Wolverhampton in midweek for the one-day County team event with regular Kath Whitaker on the team alongside newcomer Carole Uttley, of Steeton. It was the latter who took the honours as the team reached the final only to lose by 11 points against Warwick and Worcester.

Uttley won four out of her five games as the team defeated Dudley, North Warwickshire, Merseyside and Lancashire before the final defeat.

The Yorkshire Ladies comfortably defeated Burton in a County match where local representatives Sharon Gadd and Viv Abell had mixed fortunes. Gadd just lost by three but Abell bounced back to form with a 21-13 success at Swadlincote Catholic Club.

Also further afield, Richard Hargreaves just failed to reach the last eight of the Hillcrest Classic losing 29-31 in round four, while David Scott of Silsden reached the semi-final of the Dobbies SC event losing out to the experienced local, John Bailey, the eventual winner of the event.

The remaining local hopes in Yorkshire events were defeated last Saturday in wet conditions.

Settle went out to Burley Park at Crowghyll, while Oxenhope just went down to Wakefield Thornes at West Bradford.

A special mention to Myrtle Park who have reached the last eight of the mixed team event, the Hutchinson Trophy, after a victory over past winners, Glasshoughton.

It is the turn of the Skipton Ladies to be in action on Sunday in the Yorkshire ABA event for the Inter-District event at West Park Bradford from 10am, where they are grouped with the locals and the West Riding and will have to be in top form to progress.
