KEIGHLEY crashed out of the Jack Hampshire Cup at the quarter-final stage following a one-wicket loss to Brighouse with five balls to spare.
Keighley skipper Paul Quinlan won the toss and elected to bat first. With it being a shortened format of the game (40 overs per side) Quinlan decided to change his batting formation, pairing Richard Gould with wicketkeeper Adam Smith as the openers.
He was not left disappointed as they crashed 104 for the first wicket until Smith was removed for 63 off just 56 deliveries.
Gould soon followed for 20 and this brought about an innings collapse going from 108-2 to 175 all out in the 35th over, with cameo performances from Nathan Storton (16) and Quinlan (16).
In reply, Keighley’s opening bowling pair of Quinlan and Ben Jagger each struck early, leaving Brighouse on 7-2.
Brighouse needed to dig in and solid performances from Sabar Sarwant (61) and Khurram Maqsood (29) saw them cruising to victory at 126-6.
Quinlan introduced Nathan Storton to the attack and three quick wickets swung the game back into Keighley’s favour with Brighouse teetering on 172-9.
But Asad Mahmood kept his nerve and his 32 not out saw Brighouse to victory.
