KEIGHLEY Cougars centre Perry Whiteley has joined League 1 promotion chasers York City Knights.

The RFL confirmed today that the player was successfully registered ahead of last Friday’s transfer deadline.

The 25-year-old chas joined Knights on a deal until the end of this season.

Dewsbury born Whiteley started his career in the youth ranks at the Huddersfield Giants, before moving to Australia.

He spent two seasons with Young RL in Country Rugby League, prior to returning home to England in the 2015 season and signing with Workington Town.

Whiteley spent two seasons at Derwent Park in which time he made 39 appearances and scored 14 tries before moving to Sheffield for 2017.

During his sole year in South Yorkshire, Whiteley scored one try in 17 appearances as the Eagles finished runners-up in the Championship Shield for the second consecutive season.

Knights coach James Ford said: “I’m pleased to bring in an outside back of Perry’s potential, I’d like to thank the supporters, sponsors and the board for backing me once again.

“Perry has the potential to be a quality player for the Knights if his attitude towards hard work and attention to detail is where it needs to be.

“I’m looking forward to working with him and facilitating his development.”

Whiteley could make his debut when the Knights play North Wales Crusaders at Bootham Crescent this Sunday.
