THE final of the Skipton Team KO was completed at Addingham in front of a large crowd of supporters from both teams.

The green was rather slow but smooth and this gave the advantage to Rolls Royce, who beat the favourites Sutton A by 16 points after the winners were shared at five each. The 40 start was beyond the locals, despite big wins by David Cadwallader and Craig Smith, and it was just not their night, as the works side bowled well above themselves to win the cup for the first time since 1982.

In the Supplementary Cup for first-round losers, Cononley A shrugged off the 105 start to beat fourth division Whinfield B by 15 points, recording a full house of winners, seven to single figures, at Colne Legion.

The Valley’s Veterans Handicap Doubles was also completed at Craven, a change from the original venue, as a good entry was not perturbed by the consistent rain that fell.

It was won by the favourites Trevor Hargreaves, of Keighley, and the reigning British Parks Vets.

Title holder David Hemsley, of Oxenhope, who won really as they liked to beat all their opponents with some ease.

It was a little tougher in the final itself as they just overcame a strong challenge from Kevin Burnett, of Whinfield, and Michael Claxton, of Devon, 15-12.

Losing in the semis were Irene Ridehalgh and Dean Emmott, of Colne, and Keighley’s Geoff Perkins and Jeff Bradley.

Also in the money were John Chambers/Stan Bargh, Malcolm Pitt/Barbara Hayhurst, Mick Cox/Cliff Taylor and John Callanan/Stephen Lloyd.

Lund Park staged a fundraising handicap for new light fittings recently where the main event was won by ex-star, James Tiler who beat his twin brother Ryan in the final, while organiser Bev Guffick beat relative newcomer Mick Rhodes by the same score.

In the Valley’s Vets League, Gargrave A regained the First Division title ahead of old rivals Settle A, while Broughton A and Sutton A return to Division Two.

Coming up from League Two are Devon and Colne Cricket, while sinking into League Three are SPF B and Sutton B.

Division Three champions are Settle B, followed up by Gargrave B, while going down are Crosshills B and Bradshaw B.

Top of League Four are Whinfield C and Denholme, while relegated are Bingley C and Cull C.

Up from the depths of Division Five come SPF C and Gargrave C.

Team KO matches commence in all leagues on September 10 with the grand finals on October 1.

The Hebden League has also been completed with Cross Roads A finishing as runners-up to worthy winners Mytholmroyd A, while Oakworth were relegated after winning only one game.

Cross Roads B finished as runners up in Division Two behind Saville, while poor Cullingworth B who won one game less than Oakworth, finished bottom.

The weekend begins tomorrow with the Yorkshire Parks Veteran’s Doubles at Asa Briggs from 10am, where local hopes Trevor Hargreaves and David Hemsley hope to continue their good run.

Sunday sees the Hebden Champion of Champions event at Hillcrest and the postponed Dick Keighley event is at Gargrave.
