RAIN came down to wipe out the whole Aire-Wharfe programme on Saturday and there were few teams more relieved than Steeton.

They managed to avoid a tricky tie at promotion-challengers Hall Park and in doing so, ensured their Division Two safety, as the abandoned matches confirmed that Calverley and Leeds Modernians will be in Division Three next season.

Harden had their sights on chasing down fourth-placed Bolton Villas in Division Three but that looks very unlikely after the cancellation of their home game against Thackley.

In Division One, Otley and Burley are fighting for the championship in Saturday’s final round, with the former on top by just two points.

The race to reach the top tier has become an exciting sub-plot, and Tong Park Esholt and Hall Park have all to play for in their bid to join Collingham in promotion.

Addingham are currently second, eight points clear of Tong Park and 10 ahead of Hall Park, with one game remaining.

Green Lane’s hopes of escaping from Division Three still mathematically exist, but they need New Rover to lose at Alwoodley which seems unlikely.

Meanwhile, the rained off matches ended any hopes Bolton Villas had of joining the Division Two promotion race.
