CALVERLEY United had a dreadful afternoon in the Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division, losing 7-2, conceding three penalties and having their keeper sent off.

Opponents Athletico were in destructive form in the second half, scoring five times to ensure their first win of the season, although goalkeeper Haroon Tariq did well to restrict Calverley to only two goals.

Mohammed Qasim and Adil Tanvir each netted twice, while Mohammed Raaj, Saad Abbas and Muhammed Ikraaj bagged the other Athletico goals. The prolific Matty Wilson notched a brace for Calverley.

Wibsey won last week but they were thrashed after another excellent 90 minutes from hosts Farsley Celtic Juniors, who also experienced opening day success.

Said Osman and Alex Reid both hit a brace, with Joe Firth, Ben Wilson and Chad Morris also netting.

Cameron Whalley, at just 16 years old, made his debut off the bench and he coolly chipped the Wibsey keeper from 20 yards to ensure an incredible 8-0 win.

An aggressive Grangefield Old Boys side beat Alwoodley 1-0. They dominated from the off but failed to convert any of their numerous first half chances.

That constant pressure eventually paid off after the break, when Shane Gaunt converted a great pass from Andrew Kenyon. Alwoodley, who won last week, were never allowed to settle on the ball in this clash.

Last season's Premier Division champions Drighlington were beaten 1-0 by a strong Leeds Medics & Dentists outfit.

Medics scored early on through Brad Chambers, while at the other end, Shane Sowden struck the Medics post from 25 yards.

Drighlington's best spell was early in the second half, with a wonderful strike parried by the Medics keeper, but they failed to find that vital equaliser.

Stanningley lost a seesaw encounter 5-4 at home to Ealandians. They were 4-1 down at the break but fought back after a poor start to nearly claim a point.

The Stanningley scorers were Matt Geraghty, Adam Pulford, John Ward and Josh Townend, who took full advantage of Ealandians' concentration lapses in the second half.

A triple for Colin Schofield and goals from James Parkinson and Wayne Crossley ensured a nervy win for the visitors.
