THE draw for the FA Vase third qualifying round will be made at lunchtime tomorrow, with Thackley, Steeton and Silsden looking out for their next opponents after winning their second qualifying round ties.

Thackley were 5-2 home winners over Carlisle City, who are one of Steeton’s North West Counties Division One North league rivals. The Cumbrians put up a good fight despite the scoreline and they broke the deadlock.

There were just eight minutes on the clock when Arron Bradbury netted and the Dennyboys were soon in front as James Rothel hit an 11th-minute equaliser and Luke Robinson scored two minutes later.

James Ngoe added a third for the home side, midway through the first half, and Rothel bagged his brace on the stroke of half-time. Carlisle’s David Reynyard made it 4-2 but Robinson bagged his brace with a little over three minutes remaining.

The Chevrons edged in front at Northallerton Town and weathered some relentless pressure in the second half to hang onto their slender lead to eventually emerge 2-1 winners in their first ever Vase appearance.

A rapid double gave Steeton the edge as James Grogan and Ben Clarkson netted two goals in as many minutes, Grogan breaking the deadlock in the 16th minute and Clarkson adding soon after.

The home side hit back through Richard Walker seven minutes before the break and they kept pressing. Steeton’s keeper Alfie Stevens-Neale, on loan from Bradford Park Avenue, was in top form and the home side rattled the bar late on as they came close to grabbing an equaliser that would have sent the tie into extra-time.

Silsden edged to a 1-0 victory over Bradford neighbours Albion Sports.

Albion are tenants of Farsley Celtic, who had a home league fixture on Saturday which meant the Cobbydalers had to make the short journey to Throstle Nest today.

The change of day may have affected both clubs as the match was far from a full bloodied cup tie.

There was a lack of intensity but no lack of effort or endeavour from either Kulwinder Sandhu’s men or Danny Forrest's charges.

The game was decided by one a Reece Kendall strike just after the half hour mark and it was a goal worthy of winning any game. Kendall let fly from almost 30 yards and the ball nestled into the top corner of George Clarke’s goal.
