SUPER sub Jack Lynn scored two late goals to give Steeton a 3-1 win at South Liverpool on Saturday.

A lively opening minute in the North West Counties Football League First Division North match saw Tobias Jeffrey win Steeton a corner but the hosts cleared the danger.

Two minutes later, Benjamin Wignall got inside the area and forced a superb save from the South keeper.

Steeton then won a corner, and some brave defending by South prevented Daniel Warren from scoring a screamer.

After Luke Baldwin's header was stopped by the keeper, South launched a counter, forcing Warren into clearing for a corner. Keeper James Catlow cleared the danger.

In the 11th minute, Mohammed Farhan Subhani won a corner, from which Baldwin's shot stung the keeper's palms.

Jeffrey won Steeton another corner, which South cleared before Jake Townsend's shot just went past the far post.

Steeton were stout in defence but South's Mo Abdi won the home side a corner which they wasted with a poor delivery.

Skipper Briggs then won a free-kick. It was played into the area and Joshua Walne was hacked from behind and the referee pointed to the spot.

A cool and composed finish by Jeffrey opened the scoring in the 27th minute and Steeton took a deserved 1-0 lead.

The home side launched a ball forward from the restart to win a corner, but Wignall and then Warren cleared.

Steeton gave away a needless free-kick but Catlow cleaned up after the delivery struck Anjum.

In the 38th minute, a superb ball from Subhani saw Briggs get in behind the defence but his effort went just wide of the far post.

In the 42nd minute, South though they levelled from range, but the effort was denied by a great save from Catlow.

Despite some excellent play, Steeton went into half time with a slender one-goal lead.

In a superb start to the second half, great vision by Jeffrey freed Briggs but his effort came back off the post.

In the 47th minute, Steeton hit the woodwork again when Callum Buttle's thunderbolt came back off the bar.

South then had a chance but their free header inside the area went wide.

Townsend then forced a great save by the keeper.

South cleared Baldwin's corner off the line before deflecting a shot from Jeffrey wide for another corner.

Walne then saw his cross blocked and taken out for another corner before Subhani's through ball went out for a goal kick.

A poor throw in a promising position gave the ball away to South before Steeton gave away a cheap free-kick on the halfway line.

A great delivery from the free-kick forced Anjum to make a block and concede a corner.

The South defence put themselves on the line to deny both Baldwin and Subhani.

In the 61st minute, the South keeper got into trouble but recovered to stop Briggs being presented with an open goal.

South going route one caused Steeton problems. They then had two free headers inside the area which went wide.

Subhani opened up the South defence but Briggs could not get a shot off.

Steeton's failure to extend their lead came back to haunt them in the 73rd minute when South's Abdi shows cut inside of the wing and fired the ball home to equalise.

A minute later, Steeton brought on Jack Lynn for Baldwin and he made an immediate impact.

Buttle cut down the left, got a cross in and Lynn smashed home with his first touch of the ball.

In the 80th minute, Buttle again put in a cross from left, and super sub Lynn took full advantage to make it 3-1 to Steeton.

Steeton had South on the back foot, as their keeper cleared one before Buttle had a cross also cleared.

With two minutes left, Abdi won a free-kick but Catlow made the save.

Subhani forced another great save from the keeper, Briggs then saw his effort cleared off the line, before another Subdani deflected wide for a corner.

If not for a superb save from the South keeper, Lynn would have had a hat-trick.

Steeton held on in time added on and secured a 3-1 victory after three straight defeats.
