SILSDEN suffered a surprise defeat in the Northern Counties East League League Cup second round on Wednesday night, going down 3-2 at Ollerton Town.

The Cobbydalers are sitting comfortably in mid-table in the NCEL Premier, whereas their hosts in midweek are struggling near the bottom of Division One of the NCEL.

But they were up for this cup clash, and won an early penalty when Silsden stopper Sam Kelly brought down his man.

Alfie Dodsworth took responsibility from 12 yards, and netted his spot-kick to put Ollerton ahead.

Though Carlton Pownall and Finn Donovan went close for Silsden, it was the hosts who had the better of the first half, and only a couple of superb saves from Kelly prevented them from adding to their lead.

But Dodsworth did increase Ollerton's advantage moments after the break, curling a low free-kick around the Silsden wall and into the net.

The Cobbydalers hit back on the hour mark, when Talent Ndlovu's free-kick was spilled into the path of Luke Brooksbank, who made no mistake with the finish.

An Ollerton Town defender cleared a Brooksbank effort off the line with 15 minutes to go, but Silsden equalised late on courtesy of Ndlovu's tap in at the back post from a Lamin Janneh cross.

But with the game looking set for penalties, Silsden switched off, and moments after equalising, they allowed Nathan Murr through to smash home a last-gasp winner, sending Ollerton through to the third round.
