Two good batting performances from Keighley Cricket Club opener Matthew Bottomley helped his side to two victories over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Bottomley, along with fellow opener Richard Robinson, were in fine form on Saturday as Keighley trounced Spen Victoria by 95 runs.

Robinson top scored with an 86 while Bottomley's unbeaten 84 helped guide Keighley to a massive total, 283-2. Both openers built a first-wicket partnership of 135, which provided a solid foundation for the innings.

Stuart Ratcliffe also had a solid knock of 65 before being run out.

Spen's reply got off to a solid start as their opener N Qazi led his side with a knock of 67 before Keighley bowler Max Davidson got him out.

Davidson was one of three Keighley bowlers to take wickets. Robinson claimed four for 45 in 14 overs, Davidson took three for 29 and Ross Towler three for 59 as Spen were all out for 188.

On the Bank Holiday Monday Keighley made it three victories in a row when they won by 27 runs at Great Horton.

Bottomley also provided the rock solid foundation on which the Keighley innings was built.

Bottomley top scored with a knock of 59. He faced 100 balls and hit two sixes and eight fours.

Davidson and Ross Towler helped the Keighley cause, hitting 34 and 25 respectively. Also in double figures were Stuart Ratcliffe (15) and Paul Quinlan (11).

Keighley were bowled out with one ball to go in the innings and set Great Horton a target of 201.

The Great Horton batsmen could not match Keighley in their chase as opening bowlers Ross Towler and Davidson took three for 47 and two for 48 respectively. Skipper Stephen Reape also was very economical in his ten overs taking one wicket and surrendering just 22 runs.

S Khan top scored for Great Horton with a 54 and Khalid Mahmood added 33 as the home side were bowled out for 174 with just two balls to spare.

This Saturday fourth placed Keighley are at home to Lightcliffe.

Second team Keighley's second team notched up two good wins over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The first was a relatively easy three-wicket victory at Yeadon on Saturday.

Keighley bowled Yeadon out for just 127 runs as Alex Towler and Paul Wilkinson did most of the damage for the Lawkholme Lane side.

Towler took four for 34 and and Wilkinson four for 40 as only David Machell (40) and Graham Simpson provided any resistance.

In reply Keighley lost opener Alan Broadley early on for just one but fellow opener Tim Burnley top scored with a knock of 39. Wilkinson (25), Chris Crooks (20) and Ashley Robinson (18) also scored in double figures as Keighley finished on 132-7 in 44.3 overs.

On Monday Keighley's second team won by the narrowest of margins, when they bowled out visitors Bowling Old Lane for 179 with eight balls to spare.

Batting first Keighley's top order helped the home side to reach a total of 183 all out.

Paul Wilkinson top scored with a 55 while Broadley (26), skipper Alan Birkett (24) and wicketkeeper Jonathan Wilkinson (24), batting at No 8, all made solid contributions.

Although Bowling Old Lane batted steadily with captain Haqued Saddique top scoring with a 43, Keighley bowlers Alex Towler and Scott Hartley scuppered their reply, taking a total of nine wickets between them. Towler took five for 55 in 13.4 overs and Hartley got four for 24 in nine overs.

This Saturday Keighley meet undefeated East Bierley and on Sunday they host Saltaire in the second round of the Priestley Shield.
