Keighley moved into third place in Division Two by thrashing Lightcliffe by 91 runs on Saturday. The win meant Keighley now only trail pace-setters Idle and Farsley, who were both relegated from Division One last season.

Keighley won at the weekend without their all-rounder Richard Robinson, who will be absent for another couple of weeks with a suspected broken finger when he was hit on the hand while batting against Spen Victoria two weeks ago.

Although Robinson said he cannot move the finger, he hasn't had it looked at or x-rayed and is hoping it will heal on its own so he can be back in the line-up soon.

Without Robinson on Saturday, Keighley got some good performances by a few others, including Ross Towler, who not only was tidy with the ball (3-30 in 12 overs) but was also handy with the bat, top scoring for Keighley with an unbeaten 48.

Opener Matthew Bottomley continued his fine form, hitting 41 to hold together Keighley's top order. Captain Stephen Reape (12) and Paul Quinlan (10) also scored in double digits as did wicketkeeper Richard Wood, who shared a ninth-wicket stand of 53 with Towler. Wood finished with a knock of 24 not out.

In reply, Lightcliffe lost two early wickets, courtesy of Towler and Max Davidson, which left them struggling on two for 11. A third-wicket stand of 40 by Jonathan Wilson (23) and Sean Robinson (14) helped put a little respectability back into the innings before Towler and Reape got them out.

Lightcliffe couldn't recover and Keighley youngster Paul Quinlan ripped through the middle order and tail end with a tidy spell of bowling that saw him take four wickets in 5.3 overs. He also conceded just two runs and had three maidens.

Robinson said of Quinlan: "He had the ball swinging around a bit."

The win has set Keighley up nicely for an interesting match on Saturday against second placed Farsley. The match at Lawkholme Lane starts at 1.30pm.

Second team Keighley's second team struggled in a tough game against division leaders East Bierley, who beat the visitors by 179 runs.

East Bierley batted well and set Keighley a massive target of 275 for nine.

Consistency was the order of the day as seven of the first eight East Bierley batsmen scored more than 20 runs, although none reached a half-century. James Petty came closest with 49.

Andrew Coppen was the pick of the Keighley bowlers, taking three for 60 in 15 overs. Scott Hartley and Alex Towler also had two wickets apiece.

In reply Keighley never threatened the East Bierley total and only Allen Birkett (28), Jake Hoyle (24), Tim Burnley (16) and Alan Broadley (12) reached double digits as Keighley were all out for 96.

Keighley's home Priestley Shield match against Saltaire on Sunday, like all other ties in the round, was postponed because of the wet weather. The match will now be played on Sunday, June 29.

This Saturday Keighley's second team are away to Cleckheaton.
