A HEAVY fall of snow took its toll on sports fixtures across the country on Saturday and it was no different for teams in Keighley and the surrounding areas.

Games featuring the two biggest football teams in the area, Silsden AFC and Steeton AFC, were postponed because of the snow.

Steeton's home game against Garstang on Saturday was postponed due to a snow covered pitch.

Silsden's Saturday’s game at home against Hallam has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 21. It will kick off at 7.45pm.

Silsden is back in action this Saturday when they travel to Bradford for North East Counties League Premier Division derby encounter against Eccleshill United. Kick off is at 3pm.

This Saturday's fixture at Runcorn Town in the North West Counties League First Division South will be Steeton's first ever visit to the Viridor Community Stadium.

Although much of the regional football and quite a few rugby union games were called off due to the weather, Keighley RUFC managed to play when they travelled over to the east coast.

They lost 25-12 in a Northern Division - Counties 1 Yorkshire clash at Hullensians.

The loss sees Keighley remain in second place in the division while Hullensians move up to seventh.

Keighley host third placed Beverly in a juicy encounter this Saturday.
