Overseas player Matt Pinniger is at head of the run-scoring machine that is bearing fruit at Silsden.

Pinniger, who is from Australia, is starting to score runs by the tons.

He hit his second century on the trot during Silsden's visit to bottom side New Rover on Saturday.

Pinniger opened the batting as New Rover won the toss and put Silsden in at the crease.

Pinniger and his Silsden teammates set about knocking the New Rover bowlers all over the Richmond Oval wicket.

Pinniger went on to score 163 while his fellow opener Tim Sugden hit a respectable 44.

After those two eventually got out, both Chris Meehan and Yasser Ali picked up where they left off, hitting 65 not out and 54 respectively, as Silsden went on to put up a mighty total of 353 for four.

With the in-form Zeeshan Qasim in the Silsden bowling attack, New Rover had a mountain to climb.

That mountain was too steep as both Qasim and Parvez Khan did most of the damage, limiting New Rover to 140 all out.

Qasim took five for 34 in 11 overs while Khan bowled only four overs but took four wickets, had three maidens and conceded just two runs.

New Rover opener Michael Richmond hit 35 and Robert Kimber was much better with the bat than he was with the ball, scoring 40 runs. Although he took two wickets, he conceded 136 runs off his 14 overs.

The win gave Silsden six points and moved them into second place in Division Two above Follifoot, who lost to Colton at the weekend.

This Saturday Silsden are at home to second from bottom side Harden.

Steeton got themselves back on track after losses in the cup and league last week with a 4-2 winning draw at Calverley.

Batting first at Victoria Park, Steeton started cautiously and had scored 85 without loss at drinks. The scoring rate increased with opener Richard Atkins hitting an unbeaten 119 from 160 balls faced.

His opening partner Andrew Luxton also had a half-century, with 59 runs scored from 101 balls. Batting at No3 John Akrigg upped the rate with an unbeaten 63 scored from just 49 deliveries.

Steeton ended their innings on a total of 245 for one in their 50 overs.

In reply Calverley were reduced to 115 for five wickets, by fine bowling from Gary Boulton and youngster Tom Stead.

However Calverley recovered as Gareth Lee became the second centurian of the day, scoring an unbeaten 107. His aggressive hitting brought the match to a close.

With seven wickets down Calverley finished just six runs shy of the Steeton target.

Calverley had scored 239 for seven in their 50 overs but Steeton earned four points which leaves them in third place behind division leaders Knaresborough and Silsden.

This Saturday Steeton are at home to Colton.

Second teams

Silsden's second team produced a solid all round performance at home to beat New Rover by seven wickets last Saturday.

Winning the toss and fielding first, the Silsden bowlers restricted New Rover to a modest 81 all out. Jonathan Ridley and Anthony Darnbrook were the pick of the Silsden attack, each taking three wickets. James Tillotson once again showed the value of spin bowling, taking two for 13 off seven overs.

In reply Chris Barrett and Matt Shuttleworth opened the batting for Silsden, Shuttleworth made a quick 11 before departing, given out lbw. Barrett hung around slightly longer for his 12 runs.

Nathan Bradbury and Stuart Tillotson made lighter work of the New Rover attack, Tillotson finishing unbeaten on 24 and Bradbury scoring 17.

Silsden reached their target with six wickets and 30 overs remaining.

Steeton seconds got a 4-2 winning draw at home to Adel last Saturday.

Batting first Steeton got off to a poor start and were soon reduced to 31 for three with only James Procter (11) reaching double figures.

Frequent bouts of light rain were never quite heavy enough to force them from the field.

Having been dropped from the first XI on the back of scores of 41 and 30 last weekend, David Robinson responded in the best possible manner: with a fantastic century.

Robinson scored 115 runs from 154 deliveries with 19 boundaries. He shared a superb fourth-wicket partnership of 147 with Julian Higginson, who faced 82 balls as he smashed 72 runs, which included 13 fours.

Skipper Robert Wynn also scored 27 runs as the home side finished on 248 for nine.

In reply Adel lost wickets regularly and the three-quarter total of 186 runs became their realistic target. With eight wickets down Adel crashed a boundary from the last ball to pass the three-quarter score and Steeton had to settle for a 4-2 winning draw.

Steeton's Dave Cook had a five-wicket haul, conceding 83 runs in 20 overs with four maidens.

Ian Chappell Cup

Steeton's third team progressed smoothly to the quarter-final stage of the Ian Chappell Cup with a convincing eight-wicket victory against Green Lane at Nunroyd Park on Sunday.

The Summerhill Lane side now entertain Kirkstall Educational or Calverley on July 6.

Green Lane won the toss and chose to bat first but soon regretted the decision as they were reduced to 44 for nine, thanks to fine bowling from Steeton's young bowling attack.

Zach Pearson took three wickets and only conceded four runs, and Danny Hanson also collected three wickets at a cost of just eight runs. Jake Hill took a wicket from his first delivery and finished with two wickets for 16 runs.

From 44 for nine Green Lane's last pair, I Craven (15 not out) and J Roberts (11), took the score to 81 all out in 36.2 overs - rain having reduced the match to 37 overs per side.

A total of 81 runs was never going to be too demanding and so it proved with all the Steeton batsmen who came to the crease reaching double figures.

With the score on 42 Steeton lost their first wicket - David Hedges was bowled for 23 runs from 30 balls with five fours.

The score had progressed to 58 when his opening partner Jack Pearson was caught for 12.

An unbroken third-wicket stand of 24 between Phil Barrett (26 not out) and Gabe Manthorp (11 not out) saw Steeton home in quick time.

Steeton finished on 82 for two in just 14 overs to win by eight wickets with 23 overs to spare.
