Keighley Cricket Club had a tough weekend as the weekend weather affected all three of their first and second matches.

In addition to the Brian Wilkinson charity cricket match featuring Keighley's first team against a Craven League Select XI, where not a ball was bowled, both of the club's first and second teams lost reduced overs games in Bradford League action on Saturday.

In a match reduced to 25 overs, Keighley's first team lost by eight wickets at Bankfoot on Saturday.

Keighley were put in to bat first on a wet and difficult track, and the conditions took their toll on Keighley's top three batsmen.

Richard Robinson and Andrew Waggett were each out for a duck while Matthew Bottomley scored just one run as Keighley found themselves floundering on five for three.

After captain Stephen Reape (10) became the fourth victim of Nigel Hanson's bowling (4-32), both Max Davidson and Ross Towler shared a solid fifth wicket partnership of 50 which helped Keighley to 68 for five.

Davidson scored 32 before he was run out and Towler went on to be top scorer for Keighley, as he finished with an unbeaten 41. A late knock of 13 not out by Paul Quinlan allowed Keighley to close their innings on 102 for seven.

Keighley could not capitalise on an early wicket by Reape and Bankfoot went to seal the win with a fine third-wicket partnership by Gareth Von Hoesslin (54 not out) and Darren Blenkiron (27 not out).

The unbeaten partnership got Bankfoot home in the 23rd over.

Keighley only got a point out of the match which sees them drop to fourth in Division Two behind Farsley, Idle and Gomersal.

Robinson said: "We haven't played that well this year. If we start clicking, we should challenge for promotion in the second half of the season."

Keighley could do their promotion hopes a world of good with a win at home to second placed Idle on Saturday.

In a match reduced to 34 overs per side, Keighley's second team lost by 15 runs at home to Hanging Heaton on Saturday.

Hanging Heaton, who host Keighley in the Priestley Shield this Sunday, posted a total of 139 for five in their 34 overs.

They were led by knocks of 39 by opener Robert Smith and 37 by Chris Goodaire. Andrew Coppen was the pick of the Keighley bowlers, taking four for 49 off 11 overs.

In reply Keighley fell 15 runs short of the total, being bowled out for 124.

Ashley Robinson, Allen Birkett and Nicholas Robinson had knocks of 24, 23 and 21 respectively for Keighley.

Before their cup tie on Sunday, Keighley seconds have a league match at Pudsey St Lawrence on Saturday.
