Steeton took only a point in a 5-1 losing draw at Upper Wharfedale on Saturday.

Upper Wharfedale batted first and scored 234 for nine in their innings. Overseas player Ben Way led the way for the Dalesmen with a top score of 81. Skipper James Freebury also opened and had a fine knock of 55.

Andrew Foulds added 30 and Stephen Pearson scored 22 against his former team. Pearson got out when he was caught by Julian Higginson off the bowling of Steeton captain Jon Best, who took his first wicket of the season after injury. Best took two for three in two tidy overs, while Dave Cook was the pick of the Steeton bowlers, taking three for 49 in 17 overs.

In reply Steeton lost opener Richard Atkins for just five while fellow opener and South African Ian Page made some inroads, scoring 18 runs each. Neil Spragg had a solid knock of 45 to top score for Steeton while a late knock of 25 by Gary Boulton helped Steeton earn a point as they closed on 144 for nine.

Way was the pick of the Upper Wharfedale bowlers, taking four for 32 off 11 overs. Jimmy Yeadon also took three for 40 off 14 overs.

A record-breaking partnership by Mick Wilson and Lee Spragg gave Steeton's second team a 5-1 winning draw at home to Rawdon on Saturday. Steeton lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a very damp track. When Steeton were reduced to 39 for three Rawdon's decision seemed justified. However a fantastic unbroken fourth wicket partnership of 212 put paid to that as Wilson (124 not out) and Spragg (98 not out) smashed the previous club record partnership of 158 set in 1994.

Wilson's century was scored from 124 deliveries and included four sixes and 13 fours. Spragg also deserved a century but had to settle for a personal best of 98, scored from 107 balls with two sixes and 12 fours.

On a difficult track this was a brilliant effort, which took the game beyond the reach of Rawdon. Steeton had scored 251 for three.

In reply Matthew Thomas blasted out the Rawdon top-order and finished with three for 33 from 15 overs.

With no ambition to even attempt the three-quarters score, the late order Rawdon batsmen put up stubborn rearguard resistance and Rawdon hung on for a point, finishing with 103 for eight in their 50 overs.

With an excellent team performance, Steeton thirds beat Calverley by four wickets to progress through to the semi-final stage of the Ian Chappell Cup on Sunday.

Batting first Calverley were pegged back by tight Steeton bowling led by Chris Karakiozakis, who took three for 14 from eight overs. Steeton gave an excellent all-round fielding display to restrict a strong Calverley side to 136 all out in 39.3 overs.

Steeton's reply started badly - losing two wickets with just four runs on the board. However opener David Hedges was in defiant mood as he anchored the innings. Hedges batted right through the innings and finished with an undefeated 49, scored from 113 deliveries. He shared a fine third wicket partnership of 50 with Ajmal Patankar, who scored 16.

Hedges then shared a match-winning unbroken fifth wicket stand of 68 with skipper Alex Howarth (51 not out). Steeton closed on 137 for four in 37.5 overs, to win by six wickets with two overs to spare. Steeton now travel to Horsforth on July 27 for the semi-final clash.

Silsden's first team were on the wrong end of 4-2 losing draw against Calverley on Saturday while their second team were beaten by four wickets at Skipton.

Batting first Silsden found themselves struggling on 16 for six before Matt Shuttleworth (24) and Paul Tatterton (13) put on a partnership of 32 to help them to a meagre total of 56 all out. In reply knocks of 20 by Rob Walker and 14 by Graham Summersgill help Skipton past the Silsden total with four wickets to spare.

This Saturday Steeton's first team are at home to Tong Park while Silsden first are away to Colton.
