GLUSBURN’S Cat Ferguson was in a class of her own at the British National Cyclo-Cross Championships in Scotland last weekend.

The teenager, who rides for Hope Tech Factory Racing, finished four minutes clear of the field to win the junior women’s race at Callender Park in Falkirk.

The South Craven School pupil put the pressure on from the first whistle, and was already 45 seconds ahead of Shibden Cycling Club duo Alice Colling and Esther Wong when she summited ‘The Wall’ for the first time.

On the second lap, Ferguson extended her advantage to over a minute while Colling shook off Wong to go second.

That lead grew to minutes and by the start of the final lap Ferguson was lapping tail-enders and had a lead of almost three minutes on Colling.

Ferguson bowed as as she crossed the line, with Colling taking silver and Wong, 30 seconds further back, bronze.

Meanwhile, Ian Taylor’s hopes of challenging Nick Craig (SCOTT Racing) for the men’s over-50s crown were soon blown out of the water.

The Shibden Cycling Club member from Austwick managed to stay with Craig at the start, but by the second lap the indefatigable Craig had formed a gap which he extended via pure power to win by over a minute.

Former Cononley resident Taylor was second and Nick Whitley (Team Enable-MI Racing) third, 20 seconds back.

Haworth’s Andy Peace (Shibden Cycling Club) came 17th.
