The weather put paid to Keighley Cricket Club’s chances getting promoted to the First Division as all games in the Bradford League were washed out on Saturday.

“It’s was very disappointing,” said Keighley all-rounder Richard Robinson. We’ve had a good season and we would have had a fair chance at promotion on Saturday. I think Farsley would have beaten (promoted side) Gomersal and we might have just sneaked it against Undercliffe, who we haven’t played this season.”

Also Keighley Cup and the Brian Wilkinson Memorial match, which were to be played at Keighley CC on Sunday, were postponed to this Sunday because the ground was too wet.

Robinson, who is the Keighley grounsdman, said: “There was absolutely no chance of playing as the ground was 50 to 60 per cent under water on Friday.”

On Monday Robinson said the ground was still too wet for a roller although he was able to mow 80 per cent of the field.

There was some good news for Robin-son, as he once again finished on top of the bowling averages in Division Two.

He took 35 wickets in 146.3 overs and only conceded 371 runs to finish with an average of 10.60. It was the fifth time in seven years that he has topped the list.

“Not bad for a batsmen, I only started bowling ten years ago,” said Robinson, who also credited strike bowlers Ross Towler, Max Davidson and Paul Quinlan. “It’s mainly down to the other bowlers. I just took the bunnies out at the end.”

Robinson was also sixth in batting averages, scoring 692 runs in 15 innings. He hit a high score of 161 and had an average of 49.43. Towler also showed his all-round prowess as his name appeared on both the batting and bowling lists.

Towler took 32 wickets 182.5 overs and conceded 649 runs for a bowling average of 20.28, good for 18th place on the list.

Towler was also 24th in the batting averages, scoring 316 runs in 15 innings and being not out three times for an average of 26.33. His high score was an unbeaten 48.

He finished one place above Matthew Bottomley, whose average was 25.59.

Robinson credited Towler for having a good all-round performance this season.

He said: “Ross is a better all-rounder than he thinks he is. He’s always been a good bowler but he’s also had a good season with the bat. Now we just need more consistency from the other batsmen, who have all the talent in the world.”
