Broadbent in Bronte hot-seat as Brearey quits

Paul Brearey has stepped down as manager of Bronte Wanderers and his assistant Jonathan Broadbent has taken over until the end of the season.

Brearey is retiring from football to spend more time with his family but admitted it was a wrench to leave the club he first set up in 1993.

The 47-year-old said: “It was a sad day on Saturday when I told the lads.

“The club has done nothing wrong and I am going to miss it but I need to put my family first.”

Brearey lifted Wanderers into Division One of the West Riding County Amateur League last season but most of his success as a manager came at neighbours Oxenhope, where he won an array of silverware in the Craven League.

Bronte secretary Tim Welsh said: “We are very sorry to see Paul leave as he has been a great asset to the club. But we feel he has left us in a strong position.

“The committee are delighted to announce Jonathan as his replacement.

“He is very enthusiastic about taking the position on until the end of the season and then both parties will re-evaluate the situation.”
