Silsden’s wait to play their first home game of the year goes on after their 11th game in 14 was postponed last Saturday.

The Cobbydalers – who have played just once at home since October 23 – suffered their fifth successive call-off when their fixture at home to Runcorn Linnets was washed out.

After the snow and frost of recent months, up to five inches of heavy rain saw the River Aire burst it’s banks and the water-table on the floodplain rose to the surface. It meant Silsden’s Keighley Road was flooded, despite the club paying for sheeting to cover the pitch.

All the other Vodkat Premier Division games were also called off.

After yet more frustration, Silsden press officer Jim Rosser joked: “There is no truth in the rumour that the Cobbydalers’ next game will be in 40 days and 40 nights or that (chairman) Sean McNulty has made an enquiry about an ark!”

Silsden visit Winsford on Saturday – weather permitting – and host Padiham next Wednesday.

Several other local football fixtures bit the dust because of the wet weather, including Steeton’s clash at home to Campion in the West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division.
