Mark Taylor hit 98no for Steeton in the Division Two top-of-the-table clash at home to Ben Rhydding but rain prevented a result and both sides had to settle for one point.

The Summerhill Lane side made 186-6 in 35 overs. Neil Spragg (23) and Jon Best (18) provided supporting roles, putting on 56 and 69 for the fifth and sixth wickets respectively with Taylor as Shaun Delaney took 4-61 for the visitors.

Charlie Swallow made an unbeaten 60 in Ben Rhydding’s reply of 141-4 in 29 overs, Best taking 2-29 off eight overs.

The good news for Steeton, who are 11 points ahead of Ben Rhydding, is that third-placed Knaresborough crashed to defeat to bottom club Tong Park Esholt.

Nadeem Hanif was Park’s hero. He hit 58 in their 189-9 and then took 4-66 as Mick Scott (3-40) and Gareth Wilkinson (2-9) helped bowl out the home side for 154.

With the match between Menston and Upper Wharfedale, the sides immediately above them, rained off, that raises Park’s outside hopes of avoiding the drop.

Calverley are still not completely safe after only picking up two points at Pool, despite a four-wicket spell from Gareth Lee, but Harden eased their worries of being sucked into the mix by beating Bolton Villas by seven wickets.

Phil Leng put them on their way with a 6-79 spell, with Andrew Wear (69) and Tom Cummins (41no) steering them past Villas 167-9.

Silsden’s charge up the Division Three table came to an abrupt halt at struggling Horsforth as they crashed to a 54-run defeat.

Adam Mabb was the undoubted star of the match for the ten-man hosts, top-scoring with 47 and then taking 6-32 off 18 overs.

Mabb held the Horsforth innings together as they mustered 127-9 from 33.3 overs.

Matthew Shuttleworth took 4-62 for Silsden, linking up well with Waqas Ahmed, who weighed in with 4-37.

On recent form, the visitors would have been confident of making their target but Mabb and Andrew Robinson (4-26 off 18 overs) put them to the sword and skittled them for just 73.

Craig Thornton (24) top-scored for the Keighley Road side but he was the only batsman to reach double figures.

Steeton II gained revenge at Guiseley II for defeat in the corresponding league fixture earlier in the season.

A great knock of 77no by Julian Higginson, backed up by 34 from James Emmott, saw the visitors to a total of 192-6.

Guiseley battled hard to secure a losing draw but were all out for 144 off 45 overs. They were put to the sword by Emmott, who collected 5-32 off 16 overs.

Steeton II’s win saw them leapfrog Guiseley II and go third in Division One on 67 points. They are now just two points off leaders Green Lane II (69 points) and one point behind second-placed Adel II, who gained a five-point winning draw at Harden II.

In the second-team Division Three, Silsden II held on for a point at home to Bolton Villas. The hosts made 110-8 in response to 176-5.
