Rain and a win for rivals Ben Rhydding mean Steeton still have plenty of work to do to secure the Division Two crown.

While the Summerhill Laners could only pick up a point at Knaresborough as the weather intervened, Ben Rhydding beat Calverley by 96 runs to clinch their second successive promotion and close the gap between themselves and the leaders to four points with two games to play.

Steeton host Harden and Ben Rhydding entertain struggling Tong Park-Esholt on Saturday, with visits to Pool and North Leeds respectively on the final day.

On a frustrating day last weekend, Knaresborough had scored 168-7 when the heavens opened with nine balls of their innings left. Tea was taken early but soon there were standing water on the wicket ends.

Jon Best was the pick of the bowlers with 3-69 from 18.3 overs to take his tally to 56 wickets for the season.

Ross Suri continued his great form in collecting 2-29. He bowled both his victims, meaning his last ten wickets have come in that fashion. Knaresborough declared when the rain stopped but Steeton could only manage 44-1 before it started again.

Four-wicket hauls from John Storey and Charlie Dracup raised Menston hopes when they dismissed Harden for 126, of which Mark Beckett hit 71, including five sixes.

But the visitors could find no answer to Phil Leng (4-29) and especially spinner Andy Bailey (5-9) and crashed to a 36-run defeat.

Silsden slumped to a big defeat in Division Three at home to promotion-seeking Woodhouse.

Q Shezad (64) and F Alam (59no) were to the fore as the visitors racked up 212-5. Phil Binner (pictured) enjoyed Silsden’s best figures with 2-37 off nine overs.

The Keighley Road side slumped to 6-2 and, though Craig Thornton (51) provided good resistance, the hosts never recovered as they were bowled out for 111. M Yaqoob (4-49) and S Khan (4-9) were the chief destroyers.

Steeton II lost their third game on the trot when they were beaten by three wickets at home to Beck-withshaw with two balls to go.

Mick Wilson (77) was in great form as he led Steeton to 225-8. He shared a stand of 85 with junior Luke Watson (38) before extra impetus was provided by James Emmott, who finished with an unbeaten 42 from just 37 deliveries.

Guy (61) and Walmsley (49) put on an opening stand of 106 when Beck-withshaw replied. But the visitors didn’t have it all their own way as Emmott capped a fine all-round display with 5-49 from 18 overs.

However, Beckwithshaw still had enough to edge across the finish line.

Silsden II were rained off at Menston II.
