Cononley’s Beth Lath-am has been named in the Great Britain under-23 squad at canoe slalom.
The Bradford & Bingley Canoe Club member came fifth in the kayak women’s single at the Senior and Under-23 Selection Trials at the Olympic venue of Lee Valley White Water Centre. Lizzie Neave (109.28 points), who won all three selection races, and Louise Donington (114.75), were first and second and were nominated for the Olym-pic places alongside Fiona Pennie.
Natalie Wilson was third with 120, but it was a close-run thing for the next three places in the standings.
Mallory Franklin was fourth with 160.22, Latham fifth with 163.80 and Laura Blakeman sixth with 164.09.
Latham, who has been selected at under-23 level alongside Wilson and Kim-berley Woods, has always been considered more of an option for the 2016 Olympics.
Indeed she is one of 16 young athletes who have been tipped to make their mark in Rio de Janeiro by Sport England and SportsAid.
