Two former Keighley rugby league players are to be inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame tomorrow. Garfield Owen and Keith Dixon will be given the honour during a ceremony in the Hall of Fame bar at 7.30pm.

Owen was signed by the club – which later became the Cougars – in 1962 after a career at Halifax scoring over 1,000 points. Before that he played with Newport RFC.

Garfield wore the scarlet jersey of Wales on six occasions.

He played four seasons with Keighley, helping the club to promotion to Division One in 1962-3, and scored over 700 points.

He finished in 1965 after serving a year as player-coach.

Dixon is a local lad who began his career as a junior with Keighley Albion, signing for Keighley in 1984 in the face of interest by Bradford Northern and Leeds. He played at Keighley for 14 seasons, through the tough times of the 1980s and into the successful Cougarmania era of the 1990s.

He is joint third in the Keighley all-time top points scorers with 1,063.

After playing, Dixon went back to Keighley Albion and was first-team coach for the newly-formed Keighley ARLFC last season.

I remember watching Gary Owen as a kid back in the sixties. I can't remember him ever missing a goal kick.
