Athersley will be a real tester for Albion Sports
Albion Sports moved up five places to fourth following their midweek derby win over Eccleshill United in Baris Northern Counties East League Division One but their new position will be tested on Saturday.
Kulwinder Sandhu’s men must visit leaders Athersley Recreation, who are setting the pace in their first season on the football pyramid.
Athersley are four points clear at the summit and have a game in hand on the second and third-placed clubs but have played one more than Albion, who are six points back.
The incentive is there for in-form Albion to haul in the leaders even more – but also for the home side to send a message to the chasing pack.
Eccleshill only lost the local skirmish 2-1 but that did leave them a lowly 17th and they will need a victory at home against Yorkshire Amateur to ensure they sink no lower.
The Ammers are just below the Eagles and trail by two points but they have played a game more.
Sedge, who are holding their own in 13th place under Eric Gilchrist in his second stint at Clayborn, will be expecting a win over their hosts, who are second from bottom with a minus-20 goal difference.
In the North West Counties League Premier Division, Silsden will be looking to complete a league double over St Helens Town as they travel to Merseyside.
The Cobbydalers have slipped into the bottom half of the table following last Saturday’s home defeat to AFC Liverpool.
They go into the game in 15th spot but have played three more games than their third-bottom hosts.
St Helens will be looking for retribution after suffering a 7-1 defeat at Silsden at the start of last month.
