Oakworth Primary School were the proud owners of a new trophy last week.

Their under-nines were crowned champions of the Oakbank School Primary Football League after finishing top of the table on finals night.

That saw them being presented with their silverware by Bradford City midfielder Chris Atkinson, who is on loan from Huddersfield Town.

A series of tournaments had been held at Oakbank earlier this year, with the winners and runners-up going through to last week’s finals.

And Oakworth proved to be the cream of the crop, remaining unbeaten as they won four and drew one of their five matches to finish top of the table on 14 points.

They enjoyed victories over Worth Valley (3-1), Victoria (2-1), St Stephen’s (3-0) and St Andrew’s (4-0), and drew 1-1 with Hothfield.

Runners-up were St Stephen’s, who won three of their matches to end on 12 points, with Victoria in third on 11 points.

The competition was run by Oak-bank’s sports partnership manager Steve Bell with the help of the school’s sports leaders.
