Steeton 3 Rimington 2

STEETON earned a morale-boosting win over the 2013 West Riding County Cup winners despite fielding a depleted side.

A youthful Chevrons outfit more than held their own in Saturday’s friendly against their highly-rated East Lancashire League visitors.

Striker Lee Reilly scored twice, with Casey Dowthwaite also weighing in with a goal, as the hosts finished the game with six players under the age of 18 on the field.

Kyle Fox made his debut for the hosts, who were depleted due to Sam Rooke’s stag do.

Manager Roy Mason was pleased with the performance, which saw them adopt a 4-3-3 formation for the first time.

Visitors Rimington were impressed with the pitch at Summerhill Lane.

They tweeted: “Game was played on a surface that resembled a bowling green.”

Oxenhope Reserves 8 Broomhill 1

West Yorkshire Alliance side Oxenhope Reserves comfortably beat local rivals Broomhill, from the Craven League, in a mid-week friendly.

Dale Hawker hit a first-half hat-trick, while Craig Morris scored the goal of the game with a superb individual effort.

He followed it up with a second and there were strikes from Andy Fox, Liam Walsh and a Liam Blacka penalty.

Oxenhope Thirds 3 Beeston Thirds 1

A thoroughly entertaining pre-season friendly saw Oxenhope Thirds get the better of their Beeston counterparts.

The contest hung in the balance at one apiece until the final quarter when the home side’s fitness paid dividends.

Young Tom Brown latched on to the ball to drive it home after the keeper had parried an initial strike. Then the game’s most influential player, Will Lee, took a touch before hammering the ball into the net following good build-up play by new signing Ryan Gaughan and McKenzie Dawson.

Oxenhope played at Silsden Reserves last night before their final pre-season game against Salts on Saturday at Marley (2pm).

The reserves host Garforth Rangers at the Recreation Ground (2.30pm) and on Sunday Oxenhope Thirds take on the club’s under-18 team (noon).
