Nelson 2 Silsden 3

The Cobbydalers went third in the table after maintaining their excellent start to the season last night.

Danny Gleave was back making his first appearance of the campaign but it wasn't a happy return for the skipper. After only five minutes Gleave conceded a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area.

Danny Thorpe parried Danny Mahoney's free-kick but Matty O'Neill blasted home the loose ball.

The Cobbydalers missed the combative Joe Mitchell in midfield but they equalised when Andy Hill slid a corner back to Zack Dale, who shot low and hard into the net.

However, within five minutes Ryan Salmon latched on to a cross to notch Nelson's second.

Silsden gained their second equaliser on 60 minutes thanks to some inspiration from Craig Nicholls. He outpaced the defence to run on to Ben Crabtree's through ball and drive it under the diving Ben Woodhead.

Five minutes later, after picking up another Crabtree pass, he cut inside the Nelson right back and was tripped. Hill blasted the spot-kick home to put the Cobbydalers in the lead.

Nelson came back strongly but found much more resilience in the Silsden defence than in the opening half.

Kevin Ryan grew stronger and Hill was back helping the back four. Thorpe was injured clearing one effort but Silsden had Phil Rishton on the bench.

Rishton managed to gather the ball or punch it clear before one low shot bounced off his chest. Gleave cleared up and, despite some neat build-up play, Nelson couldn't get the equaliser.
