Robin Hood 3 Oxenhope 2

AFTER coming back from 2-1 down against Brighouse in midweek to win 3-2, the boot was on the other foot on Saturday as Oxenhope led Robin Hood 2-1 but went down by the same scoreline.

In the first minute, a good cross from the right by Ryan Gaughan led to Leon Smith hitting the bar with a header – but minutes later Robin Hood took the lead when their central defender headed in from a corner.

However, on the half-hour mark, Oxenhope equalised with the goal of the game.

A deep corner by Dan Moriarty was collected by Liam McNicol on the edge of the box and he flicked the ball over his marker and unleashed a screamer into the top corner.

McNichol turned provider after the break, putting Michael Garnett through to go one-on-one with the keeper and give Oxenhope the advantage.

But on 55 minutes, the home side levelled when a cross from the right was headed in – and on the hour another cross from the right was met with another header that beat keeper Sam Lee and went in off the underside of the bar.

Oxenhope pressed for the equaliser, Garnett going close with a couple of headers from corners, but it was Robin Hood who grabbed the points.

Oxenhope will need to bounce back from this disappointment as they entertain last season's West Yorkshire League champions Bardsey at the Recreation Ground on Saturday (2.30pm).

OXENHOPE: Lee, Gaughan, McNicol (Day), Nelson, Walton, White, Kaine, Moriarty, Garnett, Metcalfe (Quinlan), Smith.

Oxenhope 3 Brighouse Old Boys 2

A CONFIDENT Brighouse side travelled to Oxenhope following an impressive start to their season and took the lead on five minutes.

A break down the left flank led to a cross which went beyond the home defence to the Old Boys' striker, who took full advantage.

Oxenhope levelled on the quarter-hour mark when a corner was fired in, struck the hand of a defender and Dan Moriarty confidently blasted in the resulting penalty.

But only four minutes later, the visitors restored their advantage following another defensive lapse.

Oxenhope applied the pressure, Josh Kaine's shot being tipped round a post and an Ollie Metcalfe snap-shot producing a fine save.

After the break, the game became end to end before Oxenhope made it 2-2 on the hour via a stunning Moriarty free-kick from outside the box that fizzed into the top corner.

Oxenhope, who have come back from the brink in several of their previous games, smelt blood again and went for the winner as the until-then well-organised Brighouse defence started to creak.

On 80 minutes, the comeback was complete when Moriarty set up substitute Leon Smith, who rose above his marker to head the ball firmly past the keeper.

Brighouse stormed back in search of an equaliser but home keeper Sam Lee produced a couple of outstanding saves to ensure the points.

Oxenhope: Lee, Burns(Gaughan), McNicol, Nelson, Kaine, White, Quinlan (Smith), Moriarty, Garnett, Metcalfe, Morris.

Oxenhope Reserves 7 Robin Hood Reserves 4

THERE were goals galore at the Recreation Ground as Oxenhope Reserves grabbed a magnificent seven but let in four at the other end.

Oxenhope took the lead when Joe Brady headed in a well-flighted James Bailey free-kick. But the visitors restored parity midway through the half when a long ball deceived the home defenders and Robin Hood's front man took full advantage.

Before the break another free-kick by Bailey was met again by the head of Brady – and Will Lee smacked in a third in the second half following good link play with Bailey and Brady.

Robin Hood made it 3-3 soon after, both own goals from defenders heading Bailey crosses past their keeper.

Man of the match Brady claimed his hat-trick following yet another Bailey cross that was cut back by Tom Thompson for the striker to volley in – and Thompson then got on the scoresheet himself with a cheeky chip before the visitors bagged a late consolation.

The reserves travel to East End Park in Leeds this Saturday (2.30pm).
