Silsden 3 Garforth Town 1

The Cobbydalers reached the first round of the FA Vase for only the second time in their history and now have the chance to gain revenge on Consett, having been drawn away to the north-east outfit in Monday's draw.

The Northern League side won 2-0 at Silsden in the extra preliminary qualifying round of the FA Cup earlier this season.

Silsden set up the tie thanks to a second half-fight back against a talented Garforth Town outfit, scoring three goals in the last 21 minutes.

Garforth, who had only lost one of their Northern Counties East League games to date, dominated the opening exchanges.

Silsden just couldn't keep possession as Tawanda Rupere and Sinmi Oyebanji displayed some excellent control. Phil Rishton managed to parry a powerful drive from Jason Davis and Luke Managham headed over from a tight angle.

Black drew the isolated Danny Gleave and pushed the ball to Managham, who wasted Town's best chance to date.

Craig Nicholls' volleyed at the other end before Garforth took the lead on 27 minutes when Black drew the Silsden keeper and slid the ball for Managham to push home.

Silsden almost equalised in the dying seconds of the half when Tom Henderson beat Town keeper Newbould. The ball spun up off a defender and Kevin Ryan rose to head home but the ball just cleared the bar.

Silsden started the second half well as Nicholls and Zack Dale went close. But they missed a great chance when sub Dale Feather sent Dale into the area. After squeezing between two defenders, he was tripped and a penalty was awarded.

Dale hit a powerful spot-kick but Newbould managed to save it and recovered to block the striker's second effort at the near post.

However, with 21 minutes left on the clock, Silsden finally got the goal which their second-half display had merited. Wood managed to head a ball clear of the area but only to Joe Jalil, who hit the sweetest of volleys home from 25 yards to give the Cobbydalers the initiative.

Nicholls went close again before the hosts were awarded a corner on the right. Ben Crabtree curled it to the far post where sub Danny Fagan rose to head home from the tightest of angles.

A minute later, Newbould charged out for a high ball but missed it and Nicholls tapped it home. It had been fantastic entertainment for the enthusiastic crowd.

On Saturday the Cobbydalers travel to Bootle before entertaining Nelson, at the Angel Telecom Stadium, on Tuesday, October 14.
