Silsden 0, Colne 1
HOSTS Silsden fell at the first hurdle in the North West Counties League Cup as they lost this derby by the most slender of margins.
Jake Barker-Daish won the Men United Cup second-round tie for Colne with a superb free-kick five minutes before half-time.
The Premier Division clubs only come into the competition at this stage, so the draw was tough on these top-tier rivals.
There were good chances at both ends but the only goal stemmed from a defensive error.
A weak back-pass led to Cobbydalers keeper Danny Thorpe racing out of his area and he clattered Colne forward Danny Boyle.
The referee kept his cards in his pocket as pointed for a free-kick, deciding that Boyle was heading wide of goal when he was brought down. Barker-Daish stepped up to lash the dead-ball into the top corner.
Colne should have doubled their lead before the break but Boyle hit a post from the penalty spot after Chris Anderson had been tripped in the area.
Owen Deakin-Pickard, Chris Nicholls and Zack Dale all had chances for Silsden in the second half but it was the visitors who went closest to another goal.
This time Thorpe tipped a free-kick from substitute Andrew Tinker onto the crossbar.
