Steeton 1 Rawdon Old Boys 0

On a day which saw the cup holders Field knocked out of the competition, Steeton ground out a victory over their former West Riding County Amateur League side visitors, who now play in the Harrogate District League.

After recovering from illness, leading scorer Lee Reilly reclaimed the number nine shirt from Arley Barnes, who moved back into defence alongside Sam Rooke. Ryan Cox came in for the unavailable Graham Holmes.

Although Steeton dominated the early play, it wasn't until the 28th minute that Rawdon's goalkeeper was stretched when Mark McGee, after evading several challenges, forced him into a diving save.

Five minutes later the breakthroughcame when Reilly was brought down by a challenge from behind in the penalty area. Despite having had a penalty saved in his last game, Reilly showed no nerves and calmly stroked home for what turned out to be the only goal of the game.

The closing minutes of the first period produced little worthy of note other than McGee missing a chance after being put through by Tim Hird.

Rawdon went close early in the second half as a central defender stooped low to head just over. After 51 minutes a melee in the visitors' penalty area saw the ball drop to Reilly, whose on-target effort was pushed on to the bar.

At the other end, Steeton goalkeeper Josh Brooksbank tipped a free-kick over and, a few minutes later, he had to be alert to deal with a diving header.

The Chevrons had a good opportunity to double their lead after 72 minutes when a fine threaded pass by skipper Damien Whiteoak opened up a static Old Boys defence, allowing Reilly to burst through and fire a shot which was smothered superbly at point-blank range.

Rawdon went close but their frustration at their inability to to find an equaliser began to tell as a striker was booked for dissent.

Steeton saw the game out and their reward is a short trip to Marley on December 6 to take on Salts, who had a 7-5 extra time victory over Thornhill FC, in the next round.

Boss Roy Mason said: "It was a tough game, but I thought our first-half performance alone merited the victory."

Steeton: Brooksbank, Rhodes, Park, Barnes, Rooke, Whiteoak, Holden, Hird, Reilly, Cox, McGee (King).
