Keighley Athletic 4 Bingley FC 3

The home side came out on top of a thrilling contest between two closely-matched local rivals, who always produce good games.

The visitors began the stronger and an action-packed first half saw them twice take the lead before Athletic pegged them back. Both times Bingley took advantage of defensive mistakes with smart finishes before equally adept finishing from Athletic new signing Mick Whitney and Joe Brady restored parity.

In the second half tackles began flying in on the heavy surface and when Brady was brought down, captain Adam Burns calmly dispatched the spot-kick to give Athletic the lead.

Bingley countered and immediately equalised following another defensive error.

As the game entered its final stages, Athletic demonstrated their spirit to clinch the winner, Whitney notching his second after Alex Familio and Sam Lee had unsettled the Bingley defence.

In the dying seconds the visitors threw the kitchen sink but an ultimately resolute Athletic defence held firm.
