FC SPORTING Keighley are finally top of the Mastab's Craven League Second Division.

They extended their unbeaten run to eight matches, stretching back to October, with a 5-0 triumph at bottom club Sutton to take over the leadership from Grassington United Reserves.

Man of the match Zain Abbas (2), Shazaib Hussain (2) and Aaran Abbas were on target for the Keighley club, who were given a helping hand by Oxenhope Recreation Thirds, who handed Grassington their first defeat of the campaign – 4-1 at Town End Field.

The match should have been played in Oxenhope but was switched due to the wintry weather, and the visitors cashed in, despite not having played for two months.

However, it wasn't one-way traffic as Antony Cox had to marshall the Recreation defence for the opening ten minutes when they were bombarded.

Joel Gallagher broke the deadlock after 15 minutes with a cross-cum-shot and, although United levelled, Nivard Trowers made it 2-1 with another cross-shot from the opposite side of the area.

Oxenhope keeper Grahame Ellis then saved a penalty, which they thought shouldn't have been awarded, and it became 3-1 before half-time when Ellis Atha scored from a free-kick after the Grassington keeper had taken out Gallagher and was lucky to stay on the pitch.

Man of the match Gallagher then sealed victory by racing through to score in the 70th minute.

Broomhill rose from sixth to fourth with a 7-1 win at third-placed FC Polonia, top scorer Andy Tanner and debutant Andy King both getting braces, while the other three goals came from defenders David Rhodes, John Smith and Chris Holroyd.

Centre half Rhodes' goal came from a whipped-in Simon Harris corner, left back Smith then driving the ball home from 20 yards after a slick one-two with Joe Slater.

Polonia's man of the match Miroslaw Bek pulled a goal back as the Badgers became complacent, but it was soon 3-1 as Holroyd curled a free-kick over the wall after Tanner had been hacked down, resulting in the first red card for Polonia.

The introduction of full back Chris Reynolds and King gave Broomhill a lift for the last half-hour, and the latter scored with his first touch for the club after an unselfish square pass by Tanner.

King repaid the compliment by putting Tanner in for the fifth, and the latter was then fouled by Polonia's left back for a second yellow card as the hosts were reduced to nine men.

Tom Hill beat three players to set up King for his second, and Tanner bagged his brace thanks to full back Aaron Whitaker.

Cross Hills remain top of the Premier Division after Gavin Shearer inspired them to a 4-2 win at Embsay, while Cononley Sports won 6-0 at Cowling, with Reece Fowler (2), Craig Gregory (2), Alan Brewer and Samuel Woolley on target.

Silsden Whitestar stay top of the First Division, despite being held to a 2-2 draw at Ingrow & Worth Valley, Jack Kendall and Benjamin McClennon netting for the Cobbydalers, while Craig Ebbrell got the consolation for Cononley Sports Reserves in their 7-1 defeat at Rolls Reserves.

Bradley picked up a fine point in a 2-2 draw at Skipton Town, man of the match Zachary Conway and James Robinson being on target for the visitors, while Bradley Reserves were on the wrong end of an 11-goal thriller at Ingrow & Worth Valley Reserves in the Third Division.

Veteran Dave Harman led the way for the Steampigs with a hat-trick, and he was assisted by Liam Fothergill, Stuart McLennon and Graham Whitaker, Andrew Hardman (2), Robbie Smith (2) and man of the match Chris Hogg replying for Bradley, who could have scored even more than five.

In a full programme for the bottom flight, Cowling Reserves lost 3-1 at Addingham and Cross Hills Reserves climbed to fifth thanks to a 2-2 draw at home to Barnoldswick Barons. Sutton Reserves went down 7-0 at Horton.
