Wharfedale Triangle Premier Division: Cullingworth Youth 2 Yeadon Vets 2

YOUTH produced their best performance of the season against Yeadon Vets, who have not lost a match all season.

For once they were able to field a full-strength team and had the luxury of three subs.

Play was end to end for the whole 90 minutes, with both teams committed to attacking football.

Vets had slightly the better of the first-half exchanges to lead 1-0 at the break. The lack of more goals was a big surprise, with both teams guilty of missing chances.

Shortly after the the break, Youth’s Andy Waper levelled with a goal of the season contender – a ferocious shot from 30 yards out.

Youth, now playing downhill, fell behind to a contentious goal with 15 minutes left. Vets scored from an indirect free-kick but Cullingworth were adamant it had not touched anyone before finding the net.

However, they equalised again when Jack Waper, out wide on the left wing, put in a great cross which centre back Kyle Fox headed home.

This was Youth’s last home match of the season. They still have Shipley Town to play away on a date yet to be finalised.

Both keepers had great games but Andy Waper won Youth’s man of the match award.

* Keighley Town gave one of their worst displays of the season, losing 3-1 at home to Bingley Young Boys. However, they will have a chance to get their revenge in the final of the Keighley & District Sunday Cup at Silsden.

Town are at home to Horsforth St Margarets FC at Marley on Sunday.
